WHAT IS LIBERTY ?

The Following Study Article Is Composed From Preliminary Study Notes As I Progressively Step Through A Biblical Word Study On “The Cornerstone”.  All References Are To The KJV.

Liberty is in the atonement . See Lev. 25 9,10 .

Liberty is in the salvation of the soul.  See Jas 1: 17-21, 25 .

Liberty is freedom  See 1 Peter 2:16;  it is the freedom that Christ has made for us  See Gal 5:1 ;  and it is to those who have been set free from the law of sin and death by the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus . See Rom 8:1-21.

Liberty is possessed in Christ Jesus  See Gal 2:4;  it is to those who have no condemnation in them because they are in Christ Jesus See Rom 8:1-21;  it is in standing fast in the grace of Christ See Gal 5:1-3;  and it is in faith in Jesus Christ that worketh by love . See Gal 5:1-6 .

Liberty is a good and perfect gift from above , coming down from the Father of lights , with whom there is no variableness , neither shadow of turning See Jas 1:17, 18,25;  and it is begotten to us by the Father of lights with the word of truth , that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. See Jas 1:17, 18,25.

Liberty is the word of truth See Jas 1:17, 18, 21, 25 ;   it is in the truth of the gospel See Gal 2:4,5 ;  it is an engrafted word of truth that is to be received by us with meekness See Jas 1:17-21,25  ;  it is an engrafted word of truth that is to be received by us with the laying apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness See Jas 1:17-21,25  ;  and it is in the continual looking into and hearing of, and in the not forgetful doing the work of, the word of truth.  See Jas 1 : 17-25.

Liberty is in the perfect law See Jas 1:17, 25 ;   it is in the knowledge of the things that are lawful  See 1 Co 1:2,4,6,9 ;10:23 ;   it is to those who are subject to the law of God  See Rom 8:7-21;   and it is to be used to fulfill the law by love See Gal 14,14.  

Liberty is not to those who are justified by the law, as they are then debtors to do the whole law  See Gal 5:1 -4 ;   but it is to those who have the righteousness of the law fulfilled in them through God’s sending of his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh , and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh See Rom 8:3-21 .

Liberty is in the sufficiency of God through the new testament ministration of His righteousness, life giving spirit, and hope , not of ourselves.  See 2 Co 3;3, 5, 6, 7,8,9, 12;  but it is not in the insufficiency of man and the old testament ministration of death, and condemnation, which has been abolished , taken and done away with in Christ  See 2 Co 3:3 , 5 ,6 ,7,11,13, 14.  

Liberty is in not deceiving yourself or your heart , but beholding and not forgetting the manner of man that you are . See  Jas 1 : 17-25.

Liberty is in beholding , as in a glass, the glory of the Lord with an unveiled , open face See 2 Co 3: 3, 13-18 ;  it is in the taking away, through Christ,  of the vail and blinding upon one’s heart and mind in the reading of the old testament See 2 Co 3;11 -18;   and it is in the taking away of the vail of blindness of the heart and mind of the children of Israel upon turning to the Lord , the Spirit of the Living God See 2 Co 3:3, 14-18 ;

Liberty is from bonds See Acts 26:31,32Ezek 46: 17;  it is without bondage See Gal 2:4; it is deliverance from the bondage of corruption See Rom 8:21 ;  and it is to be clean escaped and disentangled from the pollutions of the world, of those who are overcome by the bondage of corruption,  living in vanity, the lusts of the flesh,  wantonness and error,  through the deliverance  of the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,  the way of righteousness ,  and the Holy commandment.   See 2 Pet 2:18 -21 .

Liberty is to them that are bruised.  See Luke 4:18.

Liberty is the opening of the prison to them that are bound .  See Is. 61:1.

Liberty is deliverance to captives See Luke 4:18 ;  it is the opening of the prison to them that are captive . See Is 61:1.

Liberty is where the Spirit of the Lord is . See 2 Co 3;17;  it is to those who have the Spirit of God dwelling within them See Rom 8: 9-21;  it is with those who have the Spirit of Christ dwelling within them See Rom 8:9-21;  it is with the Spirit of the living God written not with ink on tables of stone , but in the fleshly tables of the heart  See 2 Co 3:3, 17;   it is in the Spirit itself bearing witness with our spirit that we are the children of God See Rom 8:16,17, 21  ;  and it is through the receipt of the Spirit of adoption , whereby we cry, Abba, Father . See Rom 8:15, 21.

Liberty is living in the Spirit See Gal 5:13-18, 25 ;  it is in walking in the Spirit See  Gal. 5 :13-18 ;  it is to those who are spiritually minded  See Rom 8:5-21;  it is in being led by the Spirit See  Gal 5:13-18 ;  it is with those who are led by the Spirit of God See Rom 8:1,4, 14,21;  it is in being changed into the image of the Lord from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord See 2 Co 3:3 , 13-18;   it is to those who , through the Spirit, wait for the hope of righteousness by faith See Gal 5:1-5 ;  it is with those who mortify the deeds of the body through the Spirit of God which dwells in them and quickens their mortal bodies See Rom 8:11-21   ; and it is in producing of the spiritual fruit of love,  joy,  peace,  long suffering,  gentleness,  goodness , faith , meekness and temperance . See Gal 5:13 -18 , 22,23

Liberty is with the children of God . See Rom 8 :16,17, 21.

Liberty is with the sons of God . See Rom 8:14-21.

Liberty is with the heirs of God  See Rom. 8:17,21;  and it is with the joint heirs of Christ . See Rom 8: 17,21.

Liberty is to be used to fear God . See 1 Pet 2 :15-17

Liberty is to be used in the seeking out of God’s precepts . See Psalm 119:45

Liberty is to be used to work the righteousness of God .  See Jas 1:17-20,25.

Liberty is to be used to honour all men . See 1 Pet. 2 : 15-17 ; and it is to be used to put to silence the ignorance of foolish men with well doing .  See 1 Pet 2:15,16.

Liberty is to be used to honour the king . See 1 Pet 2:15-17

Liberty is to be used in bridling one’s tongue . See James 1:17-27

Liberty is to be used in practicing pure and undefiled religion before God by visiting the fatherless and widows in their affliction and by keeping oneself unspotted by the world See Jas 1:17-27 .

Liberty is not to be used in biting or devouring one another , that you not be consumed one of another.  See Gal 5: 13-15 .

Liberty is to be used in crucifying the desire to provoke one another See Gal 5: 5: 13-18, 26 ; it is to be used in crucifying the desire to envy one another See Gal 5: 5: 13-18, 26  ; it is to be used in crucifying the desire of vain glory See Gal 5: 5: 13-18, 26 ;  and it is to be used in crucifying the flesh in its affections and lusts . See Gal 5:13 -18 , 22-24 .

Liberty is something that comes to a servant See Ezek. 46:17;  it is thereafter to be used as a servant of God  See 1 Pet 2:16;  it is to be used to serve one another by love See Gal 5:13-14;   it is not to be used as an occasion for the flesh, but to serve one another by love See Gal 5:13 ;  and it is to be used so that that every man should let his manservant or maid servant, being a Hebrew or Hebrewess, a Jew his brother , go free,  that none shall serve himself of them any more . See Jer 34 :8,9, 10 .

Liberty is the calling of all brethren in Christ Jesus  See Gal 5:1-6 ;  and it is to be used in not allowing the truth of the gospel to be placed in subjection to false brethren.  See Gal 2:4-5.

Liberty is to be used to love the brotherhood.  See 1 Peter 2 :15-17.

Liberty is to be used to love thy neighbor as thyself . See Gal. 5:13,14.

The New Testament Greek

ánesis; relaxation or (figuratively) relief:—eased, liberty, rest.

eleútheros; unrestrained (to go at pleasure), i.e. (as a citizen) not a slave (whether freeborn or manumitted), or (genitive case) exempt (from obligation or liability):—free (man, woman), at liberty.
