The Following Study Article Is Composed From Preliminary Study Notes As I Progressively Step Through A Biblical Word Study On “The Cornerstone”. All References Are To The KJV.
The brethren are the brethren in the Lord (see Phl 1:14); they are the brethren in Christ (see Col 1:2); they are the faithful in Christ (see Col 1:2); and they are the saints in Christ (see Col 1:2) .
They are the election of God (see 1 Th 1:4, 2 Peter 1:10); they are those that have received the word and the Holy Ghost (see 1 Th 1:5,6); they are holy (see 1 Th 5:27, Heb. 3:11); they are sanctified (see Heb 2:11) ; they are together as one with He who sanctifieth (see Heb 2:11) ; and they are chosen to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth ( see 2 Thess 2:13).
They are the beloved of the Lord ( see 1 Th 1:4, 2 Th 2:13, Jas 1:16 ,19, Jas 2:5) ; they are born after the Spirit ( see Gal 4:29) ; they are the sons of the free woman ( see Gal 4:30) ; they are the children of the free woman ( see Gal 4:30) ; and they are the children of the promise (see Gal 4:28 ) .
The brethren are the glory of Christ ( see 2 Co 8:23) , and they are called by the gospel to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ ( see 2 Th 2 :14).
They are partakers of the heavenly calling ( see Heb 3:11, 2 Pet. 1:10 ); they hear the word of God , and do it ( see Luke 8:21) ; they do the will of God the Father in heaven ( see Matt 12:50, Mark 3:35); and they are the messengers of the churches ( see 2 Co 8:23) .
The brethren are to exercise no lordship , authority, dominion or power over one another ( see Matt: 20:25 , Mark 10:42,43; Luke 22:25,26); they are to have no benefactor type titles of honor among each other ( see Luke 22:25,26) ; they are to have and to name no Rabbi among each other ( see Matt 23:8) ; they are to have and to name no Master among each other except Christ ( see Matt 23:8); and they are to have and to name no spiritual father among each other except God the Father in heaven (see Matt 23:9) .
They are not to bind and lay heavy and grievous burdens upon another man’s shoulders , without moving a finger to move one of them themselves ( see Matt 23:4) ; they are not to do all their works to be seen of men; making broad their phylacteries and enlarging the borders of their garments ( see Matt 23:5) ; they are not to love the uppermost rooms at feasts ( see Matt 23:6); they are not to love the chief seats in the synagogues ( see Matt. 23:2,6); and they are not to love greetings in the markets ( see Matt 23:6,7) .
The brethren are partners ( see 2 Co 8:23) ; they are fellow helpers ( see 2 Co 8:23); they are fellow servants ( see Matt 23:11, Rev 6:11); the greatest among them are to be as their youngest ( see Luke 22:26); the chief among them are to be as their servants ( see Matt 20:27, 23:11, Mark 10:44, Luke 22:26) ; and the greatest among them are to be as their ministers ( see Matt 20:26, 23:11, Mark 10:43 ; Luke 22:26) .
