WHAT IS A HUSBAND ?

The Following Study Article Is Composed From Preliminary Study Notes As I Progressively Step Through A Biblical Word Study On “The Cornerstone”.  All References Are To The KJV.

A husband is a male who is joined together with a wife who is a female See Gen 2:21-24 Matt 19:3-6 ; Mar. 10:6-8  .

A husband is to love his wife and not be bitter against her  See Col. 3:19 ;  he is to love his wife even as himself  See Eph 5:33;  and he is to love his wife just as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for it  See Eph 5:25 .

A husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church and the savior of the body  See Eph 5:23 ;  he is to rule over his wife See Gen 3:16;  and he is to live with his wife according to knowledge ,  giving honor to his wife as unto the weaker (i.e.  of lesser strength ) vessel and as heirs together of the grace of life, so that his prayers are not hindered  See 1 Peter 3:7  .

A husband is to be loved by his wife See Tit 2:4;   he is to have a wife that reverences him  See Eph 5:33;  and he is to have a wife that submits to him and is subject to him in everything , as unto the Lord, just as the Church is subject unto Christ, so that if the husband does not obey the word, he may without the word be won by her conversation (i.e manner of living ) , beholding her chaste conversation coupled with fear  See Eph 5:22; Col 3:18; 1 Pet 3:1,2,5 .

A husband is to be the desire of his wife See Gen 3:16 ;  he is to have a wife that cares for the things of the world in terms of how she may please her husband See 1 Cor 7:34;  he is to have a wife that is discreet, chaste, a keeper at home , good and obedient to him, so that the word of God not be blasphemed  See Tit 2:5;  and he is to have a wife whose adorning is not in the outward adorning of plaiting the hair ,  and of the wearing of gold , or the putting on of apparel;  but rather of the hidden man of the heart in that which is not corruptible, as the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is of great price in the sight of God  See 1 Pet 3:3-5 .

A husband is to have a wife that speaks with him about matters of church learning and the Word of God, yet keeping silent about such matters while at church,  for God is not the author of confusion but of peace in the churches of the saints, ordaining that all things at church be done decently and in order   See 1 Co 14:33, 35 , 36, 40 .

A husband is to have a wife in order to avoid fornication See 1 Co 7:2;  he is to have power over his wife’s body, just as the wife is to the husband’s body See See 1 Co 7:4;  and he is to render to the wife due benevolence, just as the wife is to render due benevolence to him See 1 Co 7:3 .

A husband is not to put away his wife , but if he does depart,  he is to remain unmarried or be reconciled to his wife See 1 Co 7:10, 11 ;  he is an adulterer if he puts away his wife and marries another, except for the cause of fornication  See Matt 5:32; 19:9; Luke 16:18;  and he is the one who causes his wife to commit adultery if he puts away his wife,  except for the cause of fornication . See Matt 5:32; 19:9 .

A husband is not to depart from an unbelieving wife if she is pleased to dwell with him , for the unsanctified wife is sanctified by the believing husband,  just as the unsanctified husband is sanctified by a believing wife, in order that the unbelieving spouse might become saved and in order that their children might become clean and holy See  1 Co 7:13 , 14 , 16.;  A husband is not to be put away by a believing wife if he is not a believer , as long as he is pleased to dwell with her.  See 1 Cor 7:12 .  A husband is not under bondage to an unbelieving wife that departs from him, for God has called us to peace . See 1 Cor 7:15
